Trump family investment in ai, military use of robotics, investment in genocidal imperialism has once again demonstrated the cart leading the horse, where we the people are the horse. Science has always moved ahead of the people and for some reason, humanity likes to stick with superstition, magical thinking, notions about reality from illustrative technology ( like tv, movies and other social media), as well as plain old adherence to ignorance or denial.
There is a philosophy I call total mistake and somebody else might call it something else, I don’t know. Rarely, is there anything really new in the world for the very reason of total mistake in interpreting information we get from science and those who love to confuse us. Every major scientific invention is rolled in skepticism and pure disbelief, while the public spends decades or centuries burning at the stake, ostracizing, fantasizing the miscellaneous effects by placing new ideas against what they think they know from their own experience, ancient religious texts, and more ignorant authoritarian people who tell them what to think. While this process takes place, including voting for only those people who also refuse to accept new ideas and real scientific technological change rather than fantastic acceptance of powerful and wealthy influencers who only envision new ideas to further their stranglehold on power. The military can always use robots or ai long before (but too late) the public even understands how it can be utilized by normal people, and, of course, whether it even needs to be used at all.
It’s not always better.
Here’s several scientific "discoveries" where total mistake was and is a fabricated feature in backward, and magical thinking.
'Earth centrism' was and is sponsored by bible and creation texts. Upheld through centuries by religious leaders, kings, and dictators to authenticate the belief in their authority represents gods' authority.
'Evolution/ climate changes' were and are challenged by those for similar reasons by authenticating fast talking world leaders over the slow, slow reality of random catastrophes or changes. Reluctance to use common sense and human intuition further hinders our ability to survive.
'The belief in a god with a personality' Another, and perhaps the only one, essential faux belief that somehow we humans, and no other animal, even Coyote, are the epitome of life, in the universe no less, designated by god the father, to reign supreme over the earth, as if there’ll be anything left of it when we’re done with it.
There are many examples of magical thinking in our world today, too many for me to itemize, besides everyone has their own to contemplate. Freedom, liberty and justice for all is certainly worthy of thought. No one’s solved that one.
One suggestion I have, and I don’t want to be completely patronizing here, is to watch, listen, pay attention to words or phrases that crop and pop up in all the information we get, from every source, for example AI, security, terrorist, and yes, even fascist or humanitarian international law, and ask yourself if anyone, including the leaders of the world are really thinking about or believing any of that as they “mow the grass”.
