I want to say something about freedom of the press, or just plain journalism.
Free press is not necessarily equal to free speech or truthful speech because the press is just another job, it comes with attachments, responsibilities, and loyalties to whoever pays you. Even though some journalists are free lance they have to do the work themselves to find the outlet and the outlet has to feel what they write is for their readers. Journalism is putting some things in, leaving some things out, usually an editor determines what is in and what is out. Now, it might seem logical, that those journalists who write left wing stuff are telling the truth more than those who write for established media. Of course, that's not true. Sometimes, or a lot, I think left wing journalist or podcasters are trying to prove we really are a free press nation because they can say outrageous things ( whether true or not is beside the point). They throw around words like fascist, pedophile, corruption, making the actual context of those words more like " sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me."
It hurts me to know Trump is a fascist in the same order of hitler, Franco, Mussolini, Putin, Pinochet, Duarte, Netanyahu, Ben Salman, et al. Fascism is of course a lot more common than we think because we've accepted the pill that America doesn't support dictators so it's hard for Americans to go against all that training and socialization. And, it's true, as we know from history, the people who live under the auspices of a dictatorship, are as economically diverse as any in the so called free world ( poor to wealthy), listen to music, dance, and mostly ignore any abnormality, such as racist, ethnic, religious intolerance, as long as they aren't part of it, thus making social fabric cohesion theory mythological. It's all about nationalism and patriotism at that point.
Freedom to a nation based in sociopathic, meaning unequal, unjust, or economically weighted toward the top, is essentially psychopathic. Anyone will try to do what they think they can get away with or do what they want, fuck the consequences.
It's interesting that in a dictatorship, we don't want to know why people do anything before we punish them. That's because there is no justice system at all. Those who commit white collar crime or who are wealthy just go unpunished while common thieves, criminals get lots of attention because secretly we think stealing is more conspiratorial than greed. People steal what they think they want from others who have it. Greedy people steal from others to get more than what they need. Greed is the basic sin of all dictators, bar none. Does anyone ask themselves why a billionaire, or as in the past, a multi millionaire would want to be president, or. Senator, or anything representing people they could care less about?
It also hurts to think that Trump is much like Cesar Chavez, Bill Clinton, and many other male sex abusers on the left, or liberal side and right, or fascist side of things. It doesn't occur to many journalists to mention that it's men who run the world and the ones who make the wars, economic policies, and, make up nearly all the cultural, religious leaders around the world. It's such an obvious factor in cause but nearly all journalists, podcasters, politicians never say anything about it. The influencers, whether culturally, religious, political, or personal, divide us up and we accept their premises based on whatever our own truths are.
Truth is relative but there are some facts, such as the mess men, as a socially derived authority, make sure they run the world goes unchallenged.
Needless to say, since society preens boys and girls, men and women, for their particular roles and niches based on a hierarchy dependent on religious belief, political affiliation, or work status, we end up with the same result.
The Cesar Chavez fall from grace is just another example of a society disintegrating into its various hierarchical categories. Chavez's quick fall from grace when the president who is accused, no more, no less, continues to hold power, a huge amount of power, should be a world wide wake up call but it's not. Why? Because men have made oil, war, authority, power the greater goal, over the simplicity of motherhood, protecting children, providing sustenance, and social coherancy.
When the Declaration of Independence said, "We, the People" that meant us, not them. But ever since then, although we've tried to add to the list of people who are the people, we allowed them to decide, like making corporations people but not some races, some immigrants, or some women, or even children.
