Hope is not a real thing
“Nothing’s perfect, Nothing's forever ever, and Nothing's guaranteed.”
In many essays over the last few years I have complained about the democrats complacency about not coming to a consistent regard for (1) accepting that democracy itself is a war between factions and not a gentlemanly protocol riddled process, (2) the definition of "fascism", (3) the definition of "genocide", (4) how america can be a dictatorship even when politicians say it isn't.
Now we can question "justice". Since we now have a president that was impeached by the house twice, fomented revolution, pardoned convicted felons based on arbitrary reasoning, dictates by executive disorder, rebels against judicial decrees based on whim and indiscreet power.
It didn't start with him though. The use of executive action has been utilized many times by both democratic and republican presidents usually in matters of military "action" since we dont have real wars anymore. Most being by proxy, having others fight for you, used to be called mercenary but now its nations rather than private or state sanctioned armies. Then, Obama gave us too big to fail and now we have the power of executive action, dismissing Congress, which has slowly made itself irrelevant over the last few decades. Despite both republican and democratic congresses and presidents, the entire american politic has become dancing around the right of everybody to forsake the simplest gesture toward constituency "as a nation" and cater to the needs and greeds of small, corporate donors and corporate leaders.
As we add "no justice' to the list of america's failings, the likes of "no equality", taxation with no representation (except in the billionaire class), no due process, no freedom of speech, no sense as in common sense, no freedom from religion, no science, no place to go, we are mired in the administration of NO. As phil ochs sang, "you are born in the free world and in the free world you must stay."
We are as static as those primitive peoples who believed the world was coming to an end when there was an eclipse. Chanted, danced, cowered and that worked because it went away. Trump will go away because he's just a political eclipse, the only difference being that when he does, everything will be the same as before him, and that means 2028 will be between the likes of kamala harris and some nameless republican character, and maybe, harris will win, and we'll never know what genocide or fascism or freedom means, except for what they tell us it is.
There is no hope for america, or, at least, there shouldn't be.
I guess Hope will be the next thing democrats will try to offer up, let's all hope not.
