I don't believe in religion, faith, hope, charity, or generic progressive politics as a recipe to prevent mob fascism. What is to be done? Evil must run its course because there is no moral imperative or cure. Evil is our problem. It depends on and is composed of all that humans fear and don't understand and of course, leads into all religions, or national ideals (which have taken over the duties of religion in the modern world).
